So often today, we find ourselves drowning in a sea of stress. You get up in the morning, rush around getting dressed and if your lucky, drink some coffee and eat a quick snack before you head out into morning traffic, hoping there hasn't been an accident that will make you late for work. Then, when you get to work, your mind takes on all the duties that work brings, only to fight the traffic to go back home where, if you have kids, you have to fit their needs and activities into your schedule. By the time the day ends, your mind, as well as your body, is exhausted.
You need to step back and decide what's important to you and your family. There is no getting around the work issue. We all have to work, but we don't have to bring our work home with us. Learn to say 'no' to people wanting you to make a commitment to something that is not important to you at that moment. Schedule in time to spend with your family and don't let anything interfere with that schedule.
There is also the time you need to take for yourself. You wouldn't believe what a difference it makes just by getting up 15 minutes earlier than your family in the morning. To sit in the quiet, have a cup of coffee and reflect and relax before your hectic day begins is priceless. Always schedule some time at the end of the day to unwind and let go of all your mind clutter that the day has brought. Remember, when things get too hectic, stop and take a moment to breath.
